update Christmas 1999

Just wanted you to know. In the 1999 Christmas letter I said Josie was a dumb dog. She was less than a year old at the time. She ended up being the smartest dog we have ever had. We had to put her in a kennel for three days once, and the kennel owner had to put a lock on her kennel door. The kennel owner said that in fifteen years of running a kennel, Josie was the first dog ever to figure out how to open the door. She was very dominant and independant. Sadly she died of cancer at the young age of seven.
